The main idea was to root the design in the local context. The stoop has long been a social space that is vital to the community. It allows for informal gatherings and a space that accommodates a variety of activities. It also is a threshold between the public and the private. This idea has been brought into the interior space to generate similar energy within the facility that functions as a gathering space for students and locals. The ‘Nourish Kitchen’ aims to provide healthier food and educate the community on culturally relevant food. It also functions as a space that boosts social health by bringing grandmothers and mothers from the West Philadelphia community together. The playscape aims to create a playful environment that is designed for free play for all age groups.
